The John Whitaker Rastrick V2 UV Protect Multi-Purpose Rug is a lightweight and adaptable horse rug designed for warm, sunny and changeable weather.

Combining breathable fabric, UV protection and a shower-resistant upper, it helps protect your horse’s coat from prolonged sun exposure while providing light protection when brief showers arrive. It is particularly useful during spring and summer when the weather is too warm for a conventional turnout rug but your horse still requires protection from sunlight, light rain and breezy conditions.

The lightweight upper encourages airflow around the horse, helping reduce the risk of unnecessary heat build-up. This makes the Rastrick V2 suitable for horses that need their coat covered during warmer weather without the weight or insulation of a filled rug.

Its UV-protective construction helps shield the coat from strong sunlight and may help reduce sun bleaching, making it a practical choice for dark-coated horses, show horses and horses with coats that fade during summer turnout.

A detachable neck cover allows the amount of coverage to be adjusted according to the weather and your horse’s individual requirements. Attach the neck when greater protection is needed or remove it when conditions are warmer and a standard-neck configuration is more appropriate.

The shower-resistant upper provides useful protection against passing light rain. However, this is not a fully waterproof turnout rug and should not replace a suitable waterproof rug during prolonged or heavy rainfall.

For freedom of movement, the rug incorporates a tall shoulder gusset that provides additional room through the front of the rug. This helps the horse walk, graze and move naturally without excessive restriction across the shoulders.

A soft faux-fur wither pad cushions the area around the withers, helping distribute pressure and reduce the risk of discomfort during wear. This is particularly beneficial for horses that are sensitive around the wither or prone to pressure from rug seams.

Important Information

The Rastrick V2 is shower resistant rather than fully waterproof. It should not be used as a replacement for a waterproof turnout rug during prolonged rain or severe weather.

Always check your horse regularly while wearing any rug. Remove the rug periodically to inspect the coat, shoulders, withers and skin for signs of rubbing, pressure or excessive warmth.
