JSM Equestrian Supplies , Digital Screening Horse Care Apps

The JSM Horse Weight Scanner and JSM Horse Hoof Scanner are digital screening and estimation tools provided by JSM Equestrian Supplies. By using either app, you acknowledge and accept the following terms.

1. Informational use only

The apps provide automated estimates and observations from photographs, video, measurements and information supplied by the user.

They are intended to support routine monitoring and help users decide whether further professional advice may be appropriate. They do not provide veterinary services and are not substitutes for an examination by a veterinary surgeon, registered farrier or other suitably qualified professional.

A veterinary surgeon is the professional qualified to diagnose and treat animal illnesses and injuries.

2. Horse Weight Scanner

Any weight shown by the Horse Weight Scanner is an estimate, not a confirmed measurement.

Results may be affected by factors including:

The horse’s breed, age, condition and conformation.
Pregnancy, muscle development or unusual fat distribution.
Coat thickness, rugs, tack, mud or obscured body areas.
Camera angle, distance, lighting, movement and image quality.
Incorrect height or other information entered by the user.
The capabilities of the user’s phone and camera.

Do not use an app estimate as the sole basis for:

Veterinary medicine or wormer dosage.
Sedation, anaesthetic or drug calculations.
Clinical treatment decisions.
Emergency feeding decisions.
Transport, equipment or load-limit decisions where an accurate weight is required.

Where accurate weight is important, use a calibrated weighbridge, veterinary scale or another professionally recommended method. Veterinary medicine guidance commonly requires body weight to be determined as accurately as possible, and some authorised equine products specifically recommend a scale or weight tape to support correct dosing.

Always follow the product label and obtain advice from your veterinary surgeon, pharmacist or suitably qualified animal medicines adviser before administering veterinary medicines.

3. Horse Hoof Scanner

The Horse Hoof Scanner provides a visual screening of the areas shown in the submitted images. It does not diagnose hoof disease, lameness, infection, laminitis, abscesses, fractures or any other medical condition.

The scanner may:

Miss a visible or hidden problem.
Incorrectly flag a normal feature as a concern.
Be unable to assess structures hidden inside the hoof.
Produce an unreliable result from unclear, incomplete or poorly positioned images.
Be affected by mud, bedding, hoof dressing, shoes, shadows or wet surfaces.

A result marked low concern or no obvious issue detected does not confirm that the hoof is healthy.

Seek prompt professional assistance where a horse is:

Suddenly or severely lame.
Reluctant or unable to bear weight.
Showing marked heat, swelling or a strong digital pulse.
Bleeding or showing discharge.
Showing significant pain.
Suspected of having laminitis, a penetrating injury or another urgent condition.
Deteriorating regardless of the app result.

Contact a veterinary surgeon for suspected illness, injury, significant pain or lameness. Contact a registered farrier for appropriate hoof-care and shoeing advice. Where urgency is uncertain, contact your veterinary practice rather than waiting for another scan.

4. Safe handling

Only use the apps when it is safe to do so.

Do not place yourself underneath, directly behind or dangerously close to a horse to obtain an image. Do not lift a hoof unless you are competent to do so and the horse can be handled safely.

A competent person should hold the horse where necessary. Stop immediately if the horse becomes anxious, moves unpredictably or presents a risk to any person or animal.

JSM Equestrian Supplies is not responsible for the handling or restraint of the horse while photographs, video or measurements are being obtained.

5. Automated and artificial-intelligence analysis

Results may be generated or assisted by automated image-analysis or artificial-intelligence systems. These systems can make mistakes and cannot consider all the information that would be available during a physical examination.

The result must therefore be treated as an indication only and reviewed alongside the horse’s behaviour, physical signs, history and professional advice.

Do not disregard professional advice, delay obtaining veterinary attention or discontinue treatment because of an app result.

6. User responsibility

You are responsible for:

Supplying accurate information.
Following the capture instructions.
Checking that the correct horse and hoof have been selected.
Reviewing the result for obvious errors.
Deciding when professional advice is required.
Keeping appropriate records.
Using the app in a safe and lawful manner.

You must not use the apps to diagnose or treat horses belonging to other people while presenting yourself as a veterinary professional, or as a replacement for professional veterinary care.

7. No guaranteed result

JSM Equestrian Supplies does not guarantee that:

A weight estimate will match a weighbridge result.
Every hoof abnormality will be identified.
Every concern displayed by the app represents a genuine condition.
The apps will be uninterrupted or compatible with every device.
Results will remain available permanently.

The apps should be used as supplementary monitoring tools only.

8. Photographs, data and privacy

Only upload photographs or information that you are entitled to provide.

Avoid including people, vehicle registration numbers, addresses or other identifying information in the camera frame. Where another identifiable person appears in an image, obtain their permission before uploading it.

Personal information and submitted material will be handled as described in the JSM Equestrian Supplies Privacy Policy

9. Liability and statutory rights

Nothing in this disclaimer excludes or restricts liability where doing so would be unlawful, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or any rights that cannot legally be excluded.

Your statutory consumer rights are not affected. UK consumer law does not permit a trader to exclude liability for death or personal injury resulting from negligence.

Subject to those rights, JSM Equestrian Supplies will not be responsible for loss resulting from reliance on an app estimate or automated observation where the user has failed to obtain appropriate professional advice or has used the app for a purpose expressly excluded by this disclaimer.
